A bridge between homeless & forever home

Love animals?  Miss having a cat or dog?  Not able or ready to adopt a pet? Fostering is a great, temporary way to help SCAA re-home rescued stray and abandoned animals while enjoying their companionship.

Fostering a rescued animal is a rewarding experience. Watching a  needy cat or dog grow healthy and happy thanks to your time, patience and attention offers volunteers a great sense of accomplishment.
It's hard saying goodbye when the time comes for a foster animal to move to a forever home, but knowing these animals could have struggled on the streets in a short life without foster parents to help care for them puts your efforts into good perspective.

Fostering frequently asked questions

With the rewards of companionship fostering brings responsibilities towards SCAA and our animals. Interested in fostering a cat or dog? See our FAQ and download the Application Form.  We look forward to hearing from you!
Q. CAN I CHOOSE MY FOSTER ANIMAL?
Q. HOW LONG IS A FOSTERING COMMITMENT?
Volunteers cannot select foster animals by breed, or other irrelevant personal preference.
Depending on many factors, foster animals wait weeks, months, or longer to find a forever home.
Foster parents should identify their ability to or interest in fostering: cats and/or dogs, orphaned animals in need of special care, AND whether they have other animals or children at home.

SCAA prefers the most stable fostering situation in the best interest of a foster animal, so volunteers should please note any time restrictions they have when offering to foster.
The Foster Parent Application Form requests information (kept confidential) on your home's environment so that SCAA can do our best to ensure our foster animals, as well as any pets, and children at home stay healthy and have a positive experience.

Q. WHO PAYS VET CARE & AT WHICH CLINIC?
SCAA pays for our foster cats & dogs' veterinary care. Our only vet partner is Shanghai PAW, with clinics in Puxi [Huangpu] and Pudong [Jinqiao].
PAW bills our account directly. Fosters must book timely visits & advise SCAA of issues asap.

Q. I WORK ON ADOPTION DAYS.  CAN I HELP?
Foster animals usually must attend Adoption Days as the main opportunity to meet adopters. However, more easily stressed animals do not attend, while some foster animals need short-term care cover. These offer foster opportunities.
Q. CAN I ADVERTISE FOSTERS FOR ADOPTION?
Foster parents are encouraged to Follow SCAA's Official WeChat account and other social media and we appreciate sharing / re-posting our adoptable animal features.
Please do not post our animals without SCAA contact information or reference to our adoption procedures.

Q. WHAT IF I TRAVEL? CAN I ORGANIZE CARE?
SCAA will coordinate an ideal solution with foster parents who travel. If fosters have a reliable Ayi or friends to provide cover, this is appreciated. Please notify SCAA ahead of your travels.
When foster animals need to move, SCAA will find temporary fosters or provide PAW vet boarding.
