Soong Ching Ling Kindergarten Hosts SCAA & Our Animals
Miffy, SCAA foster cat extraordinaire and classroom visit mascot entertained and educated the young students of the Soong Ching Ling Kindergarten in two consecutive years' of visits.
The children, from a wide range of international and local Shanghai families, completed lessons on what animals need. Meeting Miffy gave them an opportunity show off their newly acquired knowledge and meet an amazing rescued cat lucky to have many generous people help her after a very rough start in life on the street.
“Freedom from pain and discomfort” can be quite a mouthful for a kindergarten class, but the students were nonetheless well versed in the basic needs of animals and responded eagerly to questions about the need for food and water, a comfortable place to rest/sleep, love and attention from people, friendship and play (with people and other animals), and medical care.

Following a brief talk about how SCAA helps provide rescued animals with what they Miffy made her rounds to the various classes and obviously made their day!
Second Grade Animal Aid 2013: RBIS Students Raise Awareness & Over RMB7,000
Second Grade Animal Aid 2013: RBIS Students Raise Awareness & Over RMB7,000
Miffy was joined by SCAA adopted dog Cosmo in our visit to the Rainbow Bridge International School second grade class. RBIS students diligently researched non-profit organizations and then SCAA in particular, and chose our animals as the beneficiaries of their annual fundraising carnival.
Students asked lots of great questions about animal care and were amazed to see SCAA animal “before and after” stories. The 2nd graders motivated fellow students by giving classroom presentations about their chosen beneficiary organization and, having seen their slides on the benefits of foster care, the cost of quality vet care, and the permanency of pet adoption, we’re quite impressed!

Many students were surprised at how much time and investment in discounted PAW vet care some of our sickest and most injured rescues need to get them healthy and ready for a forever home.
Motivation was high and the students surpassed their fundraising goal with an impressive tally of over RMB7,000 (US$1,000) thanks to fellow students, teachers and visitors to the annual RBIS Earth Day celebrations.

SCAA Visit to the 2014 Second Grade Class Another Educational & Successful Event
While the measure of success for our school visits is generally reflected in the long term changes in responsible pet ownership and championing animal welfare causes, SCAA is pleased to share some immediate success on a school visit.
There's nothing more satisfying in the moment than when an initial show of hands on the question "who's afraid of cats or dogs?" is followed by every little hand in the classroom clamouring to meet Miffy the cat and/or Cosmo the dog following our interactive presentation on animal rescue, what animals need, and safely introducing ourselves to new animals based on what their body language tells us about them.

SCAA welcomes the opportunity to visit schools and classrooms and share our mission with future animal welfare advocates.
Miffy enjoys her bit too, although she sure is happy to return to the quiet comfort of her foster home after an educational adventure – she rolls around the floor in a fit of purrs and coos patiently awaiting her next SCAA “speaking engagement”.
