China & Shanghai Pet Import
Making the big move to China from overseas and have a furry family member to organize pet import for? An international pet move can be stressful, but it's usually more anxiety-inducing for owners than it is for our cats and dogs.
Pet owners relocating to Shanghai or other cities in China can of course hire the services of a professional pet transport agent to handle a pet's safe flight, along with the relevant export and import steps and paperwork. However, with some research and planning, pet owners can save money by handling their cat or dog's move to China by themselves.

New PRC pet import rules came into effect 1 MAY, 2019. We will be updating our website ASAP with relevant information, however highlights include:
- one pet per passport (with valid work visa) remains in place
- pets must have valid ISO microchip, ONE OR TWO rabies vaccinations (depending on import jurisdiction), and relevant government-issued export certificate
- quarantine is now in place for all pets arriving in the PRC
- there are two exceptions to the quarantine rule:

Pets from 'listed countries' are exempt from the quarantine requirement, with no additional paperwork or healthcare set out above required.

Pets from other countries can avoid quarantine IF they have an additional rabies vaccination AND rabies titre blood test (RATT) from an approved laboratory.

No quarantine exception for pets from listed countries is determined by the importing jurisdiction's rabies-free status:

Pets arriving from all other countries and jurisdictions listed above are subject to quarantine.
Quarantine is only avoided if:
- pets have TWO rabies vaccinations within a year of arrival and minimum 30 days apart from each other.
- pets have a valid RATT test from a laboratory approved for PRC import requirements
