Adoptable SCAA dogs & puppies
Adoptable means an animal has received at least the vet care basics of health checks, parasite control, vaccinations, and spay / neuter (or subsidy for future surgery). Rescues generally require more intensive test & treatment to be healthy enough to even begin vaccinations. During their time in foster care SCAA & our vet partner PAW do our best to address all medical issues.
From a behavior perspective, kittens are toilet trained from an early age, while puppies take more time. Foster animals can be highly social and confident with everyone, or take time to trust a limited circle of people. Fosters awaiting adoption have demonstrated they'll make a good pet for a well-suited home based on their foster home experience.

health
Dogs have Drontal & Revolution for parasite control and receive DHPPI, Lepto, and Rabies vaccinations. We generally spay / neuter puppies between 6 & 8 months of age, depending on their size and development.

training & temperament
Foster parents help our dogs & puppies develop into great pets. Walking on a leash (always), toilet training, safe play habits with people & other dogs, and positive reinforcement for learning basic commands get rescues ready.

MINNIE
|
Female 1 year
|
SWEET | ENERGETIC | AFFECTIONATE | NEEDY | GOOD WITH OLDER KIDS | NO CATS
Minnie was rescued from a deserted sidewalk as a tiny pup, where she was protective of her even tinier mate who didn't survive. Minnie spent weeks locked in our partner clinic with staff and fellow patients in April 2022, and then found a foster family. By late 2022, Minnie was boarding again. |
SCAA is looking for a new foster home while she awaits adoption. Minnie is vacciniated, spayed, and toilet trained. She makes a great canine companion for a couch potato! After a brisk walk sniffing her surroundings, cuddled up on the sofa with you is Minnie's favorite place. |
Meet Minnie at adoption days for SCAA foster animals or ask us about visiting her at our vet partner PAW. She can be shy with new people and in a new p[lace, but once she knows you, there's no dog more enthusiastic and happy to see you again.
JONES *overseas [Germany] adoption only*
|
Male 5+ years
|
QUIET | SWEET | NEEDY | WELL-TRAINED
Jones is a lovely dog who bonds closely to his caregivers and prefers hanging around with his people at home or a quiet cafe to noisy dog-friendly outings. A homebody, Jones is oblivious to any challenges posed by his missing front paw. Other than not being suitable for a 4-storey walk-up apartment, Jones is a good fit for many homes. |
Found over 4 years ago as a badly injured pup, Jones' paw had to be amputated. He zooms around just fine without it. When Jones' rescuer had to leave Shanghai. Jones spent a long time in boarding. He's more sensitive to noise & activity now but if a real companion is what you're looking for, Jones is the right dog for you. He's healthy & up to date on all vet care. |
Thanks to professional photographer Allen Lee of PawPaw Studio for showing how gorgeous Jones is inside and out. If you a quiet home and are keen to meet this fluffy tripod dog, join SCAA at an Adoption Day for our foster animals or get in touch with us about Jones: [email protected].
JUNO | JASPER | YUKI *need foster homes*
|
Male (2) Female (1) 5+ months
|
ACTIVE | CURIOUS | ENERGETIC | AFFECTIONATE | FAMLY & PET FRIENDLY
Juno, Jasper, and Yuki were just a few weeks old in October when they were rescued from a downtown park under renovation. Their feral mom and pack ready to leave them to their own devices in such a dangerous place. The trio moved to SCAA's vet partner, received all the healthcare basics, and have stayed boarding ever since. |
The happy trio loves visitors, roughhousing with each other, and going bonkers for treats. Their puppy excitement is adorable, and their eagerness to please and learn is helping with toilet training - but they each need an attentive foster home to really make progress. The trio is truly lovely, and as they grow up, their individual personalities are shining through. |
Juno is the undisputed leader of his sibling pack. He's curious and confident. Jasper is a quieter boy, but spry and friendly like any young puppy. Their sister Yuki is the introspective one - hanging back to observe what's going on and waiting to see if it's ok to take a chance on new people. Once she knows you, she's stuck to you. Yuki is lagging behind her brothers in size and training schedule - clearly the baby of the litter.
LEO *seeking local Shanghai family retirement home*
|
Male 8+ years
|
FRIENDLY | STRONG | WELL-TRAINED | HAPPY | SENIOR BORDER COLLIE
Leo was found tied up on a hot sidewalk, with an elasticized lead cutting deep into his neck. He was an easy rescue - happy to go along with any person who shows him kindness. An enthusiastic old dog, Leo is a much slower version of his younger self. |
Blind in one eye, mild arthrisits, and treated surgically for bladder stones and dental / gum infection, Leo has received top-notch care with SCAA. Leo enjoyed a foster family for a few months, but since they left during Shanghai lockdown, Leo has been stuck in boarding. |
Leo is an ideal dog for anybody who likes Border Collies or large breeds. He's suited to apartment living too, so a small home is no obstacle. Leo likes his slow, ambling walks along a familiar path, and then prefers to spend his day lounging around with people. Leo loves meeting people and is great with kids. Older children are fine, as this old guy is clumsy with his poor vision, and his big butt can knock little ones over completely by accident. He can pull on his lead, but is otherwise easy to bring outside and he doesn't go to the toilet indoors.
