Adoptable SCAA dogs & puppies

Adoptable means an animal has received at least the vet care basics of health checks, parasite control, vaccinations, and spay / neuter (or subsidy for future surgery). Rescues generally require more intensive test & treatment to be healthy enough to even begin vaccinations. During their time in foster care SCAA & our vet partner PAW do our best to address all medical issues.

From a behavior perspective, kittens are toilet trained from an early age, while puppies take more time. Foster animals can be highly social and confident with everyone, or take time to trust a limited circle of people. Fosters awaiting adoption have demonstrated they'll make a good pet for a well-suited home based on their foster home experience.
health
Dogs have Drontal & Revolution for parasite control  and receive DHPPI, Lepto, and Rabies vaccinations. We generally spay / neuter puppies between 6 & 8 months of age, depending on their size and development.
training & temperament
Foster parents help our dogs & puppies develop into great pets. Walking on a leash (always), toilet training, safe play habits with people & other dogs, and positive reinforcement for learning basic commands get rescues ready.

Wang Wang
Male    2 years
ACTIVE  |  PLAYFUL  | AFFECTIONATE |  DOG-SELECTIVE  | GOOD WITH OLDER KIDS  |  NO CATS

Wang Wang was rescued in January 2020, before Chinese Year holidays when his caregivers at a fruit shop were leaving Shanghai for an extended period of time. People who took him from the street as a homeless puppy months before were worried about bringing him to a rural area where dog catchers are common.

Meeting Wang Wang, you can see he's smart & takes time to evaluate new people and situations. Once you've met Wang Wang, he remembers you & is so excited to see his friends.
This young dog enjoys chest rubs & laying in the sunshine.
Wang Wang is fostered with teens & makes a nice family pet. His occasionally playful mouthing is not suited to toddlers.

Wang Wang is the picture of good health. He was already neutered when SCAA took him in, and since then he's had updated parasite control and vaccinations. An ideal dog for active people who enjoy getting out of the house with their canine companion. Wang Wang gets along with some dogs (usually small females) better than others. He hates cats and needs to be on leash to avoid him running off in a dangerous chase. Wang Wang isn't all play - he loves a spot of sunshine and a soft pet bed.

Milo          NEW FOSTER HOME NEEDED    foster@scaashanghai.org
Male    Senior 8 years+
QUIET  |  SWEET   |  NEEDY  |  WELL-TRAINED  |  GOOD WITH KIDS

Other than knowing Milo is an old dog after we found him in poor condition following social media posts of him curled up at a busy office tower for days, SCAA knows nothing about his past. Focusing on his future, he's a lucky rescue to have the chance at an attentive & comfortable 'retirement home'.

Milo has been in foster care a few months, but he's received a lifetime of care! His rotten teeth were extracted (he has a couple left), he's received 1 vaccination only, he's been neutered, is on daily heart medication for a murmur & mild pain medication to help with degenerative spinal issues.

Milo may be slowing down and dealing with the aches and pains of old age, but he certainly has his bursts of energy. He enjoys going for short walks and he definitely understands the outside is where he should go to the toilet. However, his new foster home or his adopters, should be prepared for the rare accident at home. Milo can't tell you his back hurts and pain meds aren't working, but we know for sure when he can only manage getting out of bed to pee next to it and climbing back in to sleep.

Halloween
Male    1 year
GENTLE  |  CURIOUS  |  WELL-TRAINED  |  FAMLY & PET FRIENDLY

Although it's no guessing game when he was found, Halloween's rescue story took an unexpected turn when he fell ill soon after rescuer. Passing vet staff spotted him getting nabbed by Shanghai's dog management team and they thankfully handed him over.
His relatively good condition when found helped get him through Canine Parvovirus.

Halloween's unlucky health issues are behind him, thanks to attentive PAW care. He's fully vaccinated and neutered and looking every bit the happy & healthy dog. This sweet dog's shiny and soft coat is irresistible, so it's a great thing Halloween enjoyed head pats from people he knows. He warms up to strangers quickly and prefers to stick close to you to just hang out.

A spry, happy, and loyal dog, Halloween is a great pet for any home with the time to meet his needs. With his health issues behind him and recent vet care, he's all set for a good long while. Single, couple, family with kids, or home with other pets, Halloween will fit in nicely.

Bu Bu
Male      under 2 years
HIGH-ENERGY  |  FRIENDLY  |  STRONG  |  WELL-TRAINED  |  MUST HAVE HOME WITH YARD

When Bu Bu's rescuers found him wandering in the suburbs last year, they probably had no idea of the effort needed to help this enthusiastic Malamute.
Bu Bu doesn't have a microchip & efforts to locate an owner  yielded no leads. And so Bu Bu's road to health & re-homing began!

Most young dogs have energy to spare, but not many carry 40 kilos of playfulness. Bu Bu has worked hard with his training to reign in his impulse to leap for joy meeting new people. He's a well-mannered dog who thrives on running, walking, playing, and making friends. If anyone is wary, it doesn't take long to see what a sweetie he is.

Bu Bu is fully vaccinated and neutered. He's calmed a lot in his nearly one year of care and training, but is not suited to apartment living. He absolutely MUST have a home with a yard. Applications for adoption from suitable homes are most welcome. Bu Bu is a big dog with lots of affection to give to owners ready to make a big commitment to meet his needs.
