Adoptable SCAA cats & kittens

Adoptable means an animal has received at least the vet care basics of health checks, parasite control, vaccinations, and spay / neuter (or subsidy for future surgery). Rescues generally require more intensive test & treatment to be healthy enough to even begin vaccinations. During their time in foster care SCAA & our vet partner PAW do our best to address all medical issues.

From a behavior perspective, kittens are toilet trained from an early age, while puppies take more time. Foster animals can be highly social and confident with everyone, or take time to trust a limited circle of people. Fosters awaiting adoption have demonstrated they'll make a good pet for a well-suited home based on their foster home experience.
health
Cats have Drontal & Revolution for parasite control  & receive Tri-Cat (or Fel-O-Vax) + Rabies vaccinations. We generally spay / neuter kittens around 6 months of age, depending on their size & development.
behavior & temperament
Foster parents help our indoors-only cats develop into great pets. Foster homes allow rescues to grow into their own personality, and in turn SCAA can help adopters find the best suited cats for them.

meet the fosters

For the past year, SCAA animals have been featured by media sponsor SmartShanghai, with beautiful pet portraits donated by photographer Allen Lee of Paw Paw Studio. Here are some of the fabulous fosters awaiting a forever family:

MAISIE                                                                           female 2 years
SOCIAL |  PLAYFUL  |  FAMILY & PET FRIENDLY
Picture
Maisie is beautiful inside & out. She was rescued from a garden where residents cared for her until she was injured when her tail was caught and ripped by a scooter. When SCAA went to help, we found Maisie was also due to have kittens. She had her babies in the comfort of a foster home, recovered well, and is now happy & healthy as a single family cat who plays fetch.  Read an SCAA WeChat feature HERE
POPPY & DAGU                       bonded male & female  > 3 months
CUDDLY |  CURIOUS  |  PLAYFUL  |  PAIR ADOPTION ONLY
Picture
Pretty Poppy was rescued after Dagu, but as soon as these former orphans could be introduced in foster care, they formed an instant friendship. Dagu is especially needy for Poppy, while both enjoy being close to people. They're fully vaccinated but too young for spay / neuter. Playful and curious, when these two aren't running around, they're crowding their human. Read their WeChat feature HERE

MEI LI                                                                               female  1 year
AFFECTIONATE  |  PLAYFUL  |  FAMILY & PET FRIENDLY
Picture
Mei Li lives up to her name. She's just as lovely in her temperament as she is pretty. One day Mei Li rushed up to her rescuer, who was walking her dog. Climbing up her legs, it was impossible to leave Mei Li outside. She's a great cat - social with people and pets.
LEO & PIPER                                           brother & sister 6 months
PLAYFUL  |  ACTIVE  |  BOSSY LEO  |  QUIET PIPER
Picture
Piper was found first. Students could hear her crying inside a pipe. Rescued thanks to help from security guards, sibling Leo was found soon after. They're a great pair, but if adopted separately then Leo must have a cat friend. Piper is happy to cuddle up with you on her own.

HARRY & PERCY                                               males  1.5 years
CUDDLY  |  NEEDY  |  HARRY FOLLOWS |  PERCY LEADS
Picture
Another friendship formed in foster care, Percy was a bottle fed orphan and Harry was half dead when rescued. The boys groom each other, cuddle up together, and snuggle as a pair with their fosters. Harry is more independent, while Percy would suit a family with kids.
ILLY                                                                                female  > 3 months
CONFIDENT  |  CURIOUS  |  PLAYFUL  |  PET FRIENDLY
Picture
Illy may look small, but to SCAA she's a big girl now! Found in air conditioning ductwork and placed in a box when she was over a week old, she was hand raised. Illy recently moved on to a foster home, where she's a proven explorer and overall queen of the house. Read her WeChat feature HERE

even more happy & healthy foster kitties ...
NICCO                                                                           male  > 3 years
SWEET  |  LACKS CONFIDENCE  |  CHATTY  |  GENTLE
Picture
Nicco is a gentle giant of a cat. He's a former house cat. Found already neutered & getting badly beaten up on the street. His days of struggling are over thanks to much needed medical care to remove a damaged eye & a safe foster home. He's a talkative guy who needs reassurance from people. Nicco is FIV positive, but is in excellent health. Best as a single pet in quiet home as he's easily bullied and anxious.
ARABELLA                                                           female  > 6 months
FRIENDLY  |  BOSSY  |  ACTIVE | SINGLE CAT ONLY
Picture
All Hail Arabella! At least that would be the chant Arabella would like to hear. Tiny but mighty is a good way to describe this pretty tortie. She was palm-sized when found and needy for companionship from the start. Arabella may appear to get along well with other cats, but she's easily anxious about her resources; food, litter box, bed, and humans. She's an ideal single cat for people who are home often.

KIRA                                                                               female  1 year
CURIOUS  |  GENTLE  |  INITIALLY SHY  |  SECOND CAT ONLY
Picture
Kira is the smallest of a trio of surviving siblings rescued through a closed park last year. This pretty tabby is a super second cat. She must have feline friends. She loves being close to cats and chirps and head butts her foster mom. Kira is curious & affectionate but lacks confidence. Sit or lay down quietly, and she's quick to come say hi.
DALIA                                                                             female   1 year
SWEET  |  AFFECTIONATE  |  PLAYFUL  |  CAT FRIENDLY
Picture
Dalia is Kira's sister. She's the sweetest cat ever, according to foster parents! Dalia is cuddly, curious, and playful. She bonds well with cats, but equally happy as a single pet, so long as her humans have time for her neediness. Dalia is too clever for her own good. She can open cupboards & windows! Dalia-proofing is a must. Read about her HERE

ENZO                                                                                 male < 1 year
CUDDLY  |  QUIET  |  GENTLE  | UNSURE |  CAT FRIENDLY
Picture
Enzo desperately wants cuddles, and yet he'll never be brave enough to make the first move. With a bit of time, patience, & initiative you'll soon find Enzo flashing his belly for petting (it's no ruse!) or pushing his face into your hand as hard as he can. Enzo's mum left him to fend for himself when he was a 'big boy' over 3 months old. The clueless kitten kept climbing into parked cars & crying for hours! He was lucky to be rescued before someone drove off with him inside.
CALLIE                                                                     female    > 3 years
SWEET  |  PLAYFUL  |  INDEPENDENT  |  SINGLE OR 2nd PET
Picture
Callie's rescue was a complicated one. She was obviously someone's TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) cat left without follow up. She was ear-tipped to alert us to her spay & had partial  dental extractions for stomatitis. When rescued, she was dying from an infected mouth and starvation - it was too painful to eat the dry food Ayis were putting out. After weeks in hospital & removing the rest of her teeth, Callie is a happy indoor kitty. Calm yet playful, Callie loves sunbeams.

MAGGIE                                                                      female 1.5 years
AFFECTIONATE  |  SECOND CAT / FOLLOWER  |  INITALLY SHY
Picture
Maggie & her brother Jake (adopted) were stashed safely under the kitchen cabinets in an empty apartment by their wild mum. The babies were rescued just in time as the house was being packed & locked up by movers. Maggie loves to snuggle and patiently waits for you to be on the bed or the sofa. Towering above her still makes her nervous. Maggie loves other cats. She insistently makes friends with them, no matter their initial objections. Maggie is no single cat.
CHARLIE                                                                       male  > 2 years
CHATTY  |  NEEDY  |  CUDDLY  |  ANXIOUS  |  SINGLE CAT
Picture
Charlie is a sweet & playful (game of fetch anyone?) ball of anxiety! He loves to nap in the sun, snuggling up in a tight ball against his foster mom, and enjoys being around people. Charlie has been fostered on his own a long time after happily being with other cats. Re-introducing him to feline friends didn't work out - Charlie prefers to be the center of attention and isn't into sharing. He may be high strung, but Charlie is a great cat companion for patient pet owners.

ALANI                                                                        female  1.5 years
SWEET  |  PLAYFUL  |  SINGLE OR SECOND CAT
Picture
Alani is a rare female ginger beauty. She's the last of a trio of orphaned kittens found in a box nearly two years ago to be waiting for a home. One of her brothers has even moved to London! Alani is a happy cat. She's an ideal companion for owners looking for a calmer yet still playful pet. She gets along with other cats, but has been happily fostered on her own a while now.
PAVAROTTI                                                         male    >  6 months
NEEDY  |  CHATTY  |  2nd CAT ONLY  |  LAP CAT |  SHY
Picture
Pavarotti was a wee lad around 3.5 months old when found screaming under the foundation of a building. His mum must have kept her litter there before deciding they were big enough to be on their own. Pavarotti was the last one left & very distressed. He's quieter now - just talkative! He adores other cats. A cuddly lap cat, he takes a while to get that way with new people.

MONKEY                                                                    male   > 4 years
OUTGOING  |  SNUGGLY  |  HAPPY  |  SUPER SECOND CAT
BLACKIE                                                                         male  2 years

Pair / Second or Single Cat / Family
Picture
Calico and her sisters were rescued as starving babies and all four sisters turned into amazing adult cats. Calico shows characteristic tri-color cat confidence, shares space with other cats, and is very dog-friendly. A lovely addition to any forever home as a pair with her sister or second pet.
Pair / Second or Single Cat / Family
Picture
Tabby (Calico's sister) has grown into a happy, playful, friendly, and patient pet - mentoring many little kittens in her (long) time in foster care. She's dog-friendly too. An ideal pair with Calico, second cat / second pet, or on her own as the feline focus of her adopters' attention.
