Adoptable SCAA Cats & Kittens

Health

SCAA foster kittens & cats ready for adoption have:
  • vaccinations (Tri-Cat/Fel-O-Vax x2 + Rabies)
  • parasite control (Drontal + Revolution)

Feline virus vaccinations (Tri Cat or Fel-O-Vax) are given to healthy fosters starting either at 8 weeks old or 7-10 days from rescue with a second set 4-6 weeks later.  Their rabies vaccination is not an official one.

Spay / Neuter is generally done at around 5.5-6 months of age. For animals too young for surgery on adoption, SCAA will subsidize half the surgery cost at PAW for adopters.

Temperament & Ideal Home

SCAA's foster cats and kittens may be from the streets, gardens, and lane ways of Shanghai, but they are not feral.

Cats have their own unique personality. We have the right fosters for any home - from families, second cats, second pets, to quiet singles or couples.

SCAA has cats that play fetch or walk up to visitors for a head rub and a few cats who jump at the slightest noise. But most foster cats fall comfortably along the average spectrum of feline friendliness; give them a chance to settle in and you'll benefit from cat companionship, affection, and entertaining animal antics.

Roxy is a funny cat - she's always in your line of sight, whether lounging next to your desk while you work or hanging around while you watch TV. She never fails to hop on the bed and curl up close. Roxy oversees any repair work handymen are doing around the house. Yet, despite being a 'Calico shadow' she's not one for being approached and picked up!

Rescued as a tiny kitten covered in sticky glue from a rat trap, Roxy hadn't had much human handling. She was patient and gentle despite being terrified of her initiation into foster care; an immediate trip to the vet to try and get the glue off.

Roxy loves butt scratches and purrs like a motor when gently patted. She's always with another cat (or a dog) - 'never without other animals' is Roxy's motto. She adores her disabled cat friend Coco.

Yin is one of SCAA's longest-fostered cats. Rescued with his brother as abandoned and then bottle fed babies, his brother (Yang, of course) was adopted a while ago. But Yin has found his feline soul-mate in foster cat Freya. Together, they generate many sweet photos of affectionate friends.

Freya was rescued as a kitten covered in car grease in the back of a downtown parking lot. She's very close to people, but it takes a very long time to gain her trust. And Freya's circle of trust is limited! A small space in a quiet home is ideal. If Freya has Yin, she's set. Yin is a bit more adventurous than Freya, which makes him a good match. Someone follows and someone leads, and everybody's happy.

A pair adoption for a quiet home with experienced cat people is a great match for these lovely cats. Eventually watching Freya gain confidences and seeing her seek you out for head rubs is what owning a cat is all about.

Ruby                 Female > 1 year
Single Cat / Quiet Home
Picture
Ruby is a shy but sweet cat who visibly struggles with her desire to snuggle up to new people she's naturally wary of! She's adjusted well to her new foster home and enjoys the sofa, the bed and cuddling up anywhere off the floor.  Ruby had an old, quiet, and gentle cat mate who moved away. Ideal cat for a quiet single or couple.

Tabby             Female  > 2 years
Pair / Second or Single Cat / Family
Picture
Calico and her sisters were rescued as starving babies and all four sisters turned into amazing adult cats. Calico shows characteristic tri-color cat confidence, shares space with other cats, and is very dog-friendly. A lovely addition to any forever home as a pair with her sister or second pet.
Pair / Second or Single Cat / Family
Picture
Tabby (Calico's sister) has grown into a happy, playful, friendly, and patient pet - mentoring many little kittens in her (long) time in foster care. She's dog-friendly too. An ideal pair with Calico, second cat / second pet, or on her own as the feline focus of her adopters' attention.

Marianne                 > 3 years
Second or Single Cat / Family Home
Picture
Marianne is the sole survivor of a cat family taken in by a fake rescue group before a dramatic re-rescue. She's a sweet and quiet girl, close to her foster family. Marianne won't greet guests at the door, but she'll be a regular Calico cat fixture wherever you happen to be hanging out. A submissive cat, she enjoys feline friends but has rejected the idea of a puppy buddy.
Gabby & Scout      < 2 years
Pair / Family or Quiet Home
Picture
Sister who've grown up close yet so different - Gabby the tabby is an "instant pet", making herself at home in new places with new people. Ginger girl Scout is co-dependent and takes a few weeks to take her cues from Gabby that it's all good to come out for cuddles.  The girls are often together, even climbing on their foster mom, although Scout is quite large for that now (diet time!).

Bobbie                         Female < 1.5 years
Single or Second Cat / Quiet or Family Home / Older Kids
Where do lovely kittens (both inside and out) like Marley and Charlie, Bobbie's babies who were easily adopted, come from? Lovely mom cats of course. Bobbie is a beautiful bob-tailed brown tabby who was living in a downtown hotel and serviced apartment compound for over a year. It's a short life fraught with dangers.  After her second litter of kittens and losing one who drowned in a fountain, rescuers decided to get Bobbie and her babies. Bobbie was initially earmarked for TNR, until she immediately proved herself to be a social and cuddly cat. She settled in soon after she arrived in foster care - destined for the great indoors, Bobbie purrs, plays and makes friends with quiet people and with gentle cats.  But she's easily bullied by energetic felines so is ideal as a single pet.  If Bobbie could talk, her most often used line would be "are you ready for bed yet?!" Parasite control, fully vaccinated and spayed, Bobbie is a sweet cat awaiting adopters.

Arya                                 Female > 1 year
Arya is a lovely little lady now as lovely on the outside as she always was on the inside thanks to a few months of anti-fungal care for ringworm.  A happy cat, she's a bit cautious on meeting new people, but when she's quickly sussed out you're a cat person, she's your cat. Following in older foster brother Dexter's footsteps, Arya is curious and playful but easily persuaded to lie down on the bed for a nap - foster dad most welcome to join them.  Arya makes an ideal second cat, as a pair with Dexter, or a single cat in home where she'd get plenty of attention.  Happy & healthy, Arya was treated for mild ringworm, is vaccinated and spayed.
Picture
Picture
Dexter                              Males > 2 years
Dexter has been with SCAA a while - another "mystery" for unraveling...quite easily when you see his handsome and quiet ginger and white profile up against the always adorable babies looking for a forever home.  Dexter is an ideal pet - proven loyal, happy, and healthy.  He's wary of strangers, but it doesn't take long to be friends.  Dexter is a sunbeam seeking sofa and bed cat who enjoys being around people.  Not a lap cat, but that's ok as he's a big guy who'd have a hard time squishing himself on your average lap.  Looking for a calm yet curious adult cat well adapted to a comfy life in9oors and the everyday routine of a busy home then look no further than Dexter.  A good single cat, second cat or a pair with his foster friend Arya.  Fully vaccinated and neutered.9
